NCCA

Guest House recently absorbed the operations of the National Catholic Council on Alcoholism and Related Drug Problems (NCCA). The NCCA closely matches the education goals of Guest House, Inc. and like Guest House, the NCCA has a long history of service to the Church. The NCCA was founded in 1949 by Fr. Ralph Pfau, a Catholic priest from Indiana who was the first priest to recover from alcoholism through AA. It was at the first NCCA Conference that Austin Ripley first shared his vision for the eventual establishment of Guest House.

The NCCA, affiliated with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and now under the auspices of Guest House, is a membership organization open to persons of all faiths and beliefs and is committed to assisting its members and persons to a greater awareness about the disease of alcoholism and paths to recovery. It is a strong believer/supporter of 12 Step programs, including the importance of Al-Anon in helping families cope with the addiction of a loved one.

NCCA partners with the Guest House Institute in providing annual educational seminars and outreach in helping dioceses and parishes establish parish substance addiction ministries. The NCCA also reaches out to the nation’s jail and prison ministries with its “spirituality support resources” to help inmates who are struggling to overcome an addiction.

Its key “Spirituality Support Resources” further described on its website (www.nccatoday.org) include a compact prayer book: PRAYERS FOR ADDICTED PERSONS AND THEIR LOVED ONES.
