Ten to fifteen percent of our spiritual leaders struggle with addiction. He could be a priest in a parish near you. He has given his life to serve God and others. But no one knows his inner struggles.

The stress on the remaining clergy and religious in their struggle to serve a growing Catholic population – the long hours of service, an increasingly isolated existence and chronic loneliness – can lead to alcoholism or other chemically based addictions.

A sister who could be a nurse in a neighborhood hospital or a teacher in a Catholic grade school nearby. She looks just like her peers, but no one sees the battle raging in her innermost being.

Addiction. A malady that has plagued humanity for centuries, and has not bypassed the ministering servants of the Catholic Church.

Our Catholic Priests, Deacons, Brothers and Sisters need our support and encouragement. Without treatment and rehabilitation, many of these good men and women are unable to continue their ministries. They need help – our help – to renew their spirituality and commitment to their ministry.

The advancing age of the present clergy, the decreasing number of young priests to replace them, in a time when the Catholic population is increasing. Too few, trying to serve so many, and in the process compromising their health.

A vicious cycle, but one that you have the power to stop. You, as a donor to the Guest House Capital Campaign.
